Foot joint motions in the sagittal plane

👣 Joint motions in the feet in the sagittal plane 👣

Three segments:
Rearfoot ✅
Forefoot ✅
Toes ✅

👣 It seems that dorsiflexion and plantarflexion are only ever discussed at the ankle joint (TCJ) and rarely in relation to the bones or segments of the foot 🤷🏻‍♂️

👣 Dorsiflexion is a direction. That direction is when the distal part of a foot bone goes up ⬆️

👣 Plantarflexion is also a direction. That direction is when the distal part of a foot bone goes down ⬇️

👣 A dorsiflexion at the TCJ is no different in that the distal end (toe end) of the distal structure (foot) goes up ⬆️ to define that dorsiflexion… and opposite for plantarflexion

👣 My principle anatomical interest was always to observe what the body does, when it does it, how it does it and this forms the basis of my #flowmotionmodel

👣 Knowing what your body can do and cross referencing with what it does do, offers a huge amount of insight into how we are using our bodies.
